LIVE@Frost Science: Quantum Rulers of Time
This event has passed.
Unveil the secrets of the most precise clock ever created! This remarkable device doesn't have hands, a face, or even a digital display. Instead, it uses ultra-cold atoms trapped in light to achieve an accuracy so astonishing that if it had started ticking when Earth formed, it wouldn't be off by a single second. But this isn't just about keeping perfect time. These "atomic clocks" are unlocking the bizarre properties of the quantum world and leading the way to groundbreaking new technologies.
LIVE@Frost Science presents Dr. Ana Maria Rey, Professor Adjoint in the Department of Physics at the University of Colorado Boulder, on Wednesday, April 18. Dr. Rey will delve into the fascinating science behind atomic clocks, explaining how they work, why they're so precise, and the potential for even greater accuracy. Discover how these "quantum rulers of time" are shaping the future of powerful computers and revolutionizing the way we measure time itself.
Admission is free, but reservations are required. Tickets are limited to four per transaction. The program takes place inside the Frost Planetarium with doors opening at 6:30 pm and the presentation starting at 7:00 pm sharp. Seating is first-come, first-served. Food and drinks will be available for purchase before the event.
Please note that registering for this event does not include museum admission, and exhibits close at 6:00 pm.
