Soul music legend and civil rights icon Mavis Staples will grace the stage of Knight Concert Hall on Friday, March 8 as part of the Arsht Center's Live at Knight series. With a career spanning over six decades, Mavis Staples has mesmerized audiences with her powerful and soul-stirring voice. Her numerous accolades include 11 Grammy Awards, Blues and Rock & Roll Hall of Famer, National Arts Awards Lifetime Achievement recipient and Kennedy Center honoree. As a pivotal member of the renowned Staple Singers, she has left an indelible mark on gospel, soul and R&B.
Audiences can expect to hear Staple Singers classics such as “Respect Yourself,” “Heavy Makes You Happy” and “I’ll Take You There,” covers such as Talking Heads’ “Slippery People” and Funkadelic’s “Can You Get to That” and songs from Staples’ recent collaborations with Ben Harper and Wilco’s Jeff Tweedy.
